“From the moment that we crack our eyes open, pick up our phone, and sift through our social media feeds to teach the latest status updates or check our morning emails, we’ve already given our mind over to the hmu of society and the demands of the people.” Brittany Moses says in the article 11 Daily Habits You’re Overlooking That Are Killing Your Mood.

The way we start our mornings can set up our entire day. We have the option to start our morning in a way that will help us have a positive, productive day, eliminating the threat of negativity that comes our. Or start we can begin the day in a negative way. When this happens, negativity tends to follow us around, and it can be difficult to course correct.

Casey Pruet of The Grace Alliance, writes in her blog post, 10 Simple Ways to Empower Your Mental Health Today : “You’ve probably heard the expression that your brain is like a muscle…and it’s true! Trying new things is a great way to keep your mind engaged and stretched and challenged.  In fact, according to our Thrive workbook, ‘Evidence suggests that mental activities have a healing and protective effect on mental well-being.’ It may also lead to finding a new hobby or activity that you enjoy.”

If you’ve been feeling in a rut, and you’re tired of the same morning routine, it might be time for a change.

Read Scripture

In an article by Raegan Rose on Redeeming Productivity, Why Reading Your Bible Daily is the Best Way to Be Productive, she writes, “I’ve often marveled at the fact that when I’m in the habit of exercising daily, other habits seem to just line themselves up behind it as if all on their own. Those who study the psychology of habits call these kinds of practices “cornerstone habits” because they start the building process for a life of healthy habits.

But even better than exercise, I’ve found that daily Bible reading is the best cornerstone habit for Christians. Because when you start reading the Bible consistently, the rest of your life takes shape around it. So daily Bible reading is important because it begins your day with a cornerstone habit.”

Reading your Bible in the morning can be a wonderful way to start the day. It sets your day with purpose, positivity, and God’s truth. Another way to start your mornings off right is in prayer.

Pray

Abide says it well in their article 5 Powerful Morning Prayers to Start Your Day : “There’s never a bad time to talk to God. But when you start your morning with him, you’re handing over the rest of your day to him too—putting God in the driver seat for the day. You can talk through your plans, listen for his wisdom, and hand over your worries to him. With God’s hands on your back, you’ll enter each day with his grace and mercy, ready for whatever the day brings. Add one of these daily morning prayers to your routine this week and watch God work in your life.”

Meditate

We can begin to renew our minds by reading the Bible and praying in the mornings. Doing these things can really make a difference throughout your day. You can also start your morning off right by listening to Mental Health Mornings by Abide.

“Let the joy of your salvation be born again by meditating on Bible verses that help heal anxiety and/or remove emotional blockages by the renewing of your mind with God’s mercies that are new every morning.” You can find these videos on Roku, Amazon Firestick, and YouTube.

There is no better way to start the morning than with God. Centering your mind on His truths for you and your life– that you are loved and cherished. With the hectic world we live in, these morning habits can help shield you from the negative things that try to infiltrate your day. Instead, start off on a positive and productive path, having spent time with God first thing.
